Missing: A possessive apostrophe for Santa

I don’t consider myself a snob in many areas but I will admit I am when it comes to spelling and grammar.

The sight of a word missing a possessive apostrophe or the misuse of loose and lose, it’s and its and their/there/they’re makes me wonder what is taught in schools.

Here is a tee I picked up for my daughter today at one of those cheapo stores:

Santa is missing something...

Maybe if they'd remembered the apostrophe the tee would have been more expensive?

Stopping by from SITS. Happy Saturday Sharefest! Now, about this post. I’m with ya sister! Learn to spell, America. And, use correct grammar and punctuation while you’re at it. As a former middle school English teacher, I fully understand the mechanics of the English language are difficult to master. But, dang it, if native speakers can’t manage then who can?! Please disregard any misuses in this comment. It’s early and sometimes I suck too:)!

I must say I am one of those who struggle in the grammar and spelling department. Without spell check I would be lost! Math and Science have always been my strong subjects. I would neve have noticed the apostrophe missing. I will keep an eye out.

Oh I’m just like you … I cringe when I see the misuse of its/it’s… they’re, their, there… who’s, whose… one of the hazards of being a blogger, though, it takes forever to read, re-read your post before you hit publish, because you don’t want to make such a slip (and I’ve got myself the odd time) and then if you find a silly mistake later you feel like such an idiot!

Thanks for coming by via my SITS FB day. Perhaps it’s easier to stick to acronyms LOL!

I get so annoyed by this, too. I will correct people or point out mistakes…which is obnoxious, I know. But, I claim that it’s okay since I am a former middle school English teacher.

I was absolutely mortified when I started teaching 6th grade LA and found out that my “advanced” students didn’t even know what a complete sentence was. Apparently, grammar is not officially taught until 9th grade. Isn’t that insane????

Hi! Well, I’m used to seeing a lot of wrong grammar and spelling in the blogworld. I tend to forgive those coming from non-English speaking countries because I know they use google translator to express themselves in English.

    Happy SITS Saturday to you!

English is not my 1st language and it shocks me when I see those who speaks the language since birth are grammatically wrong or could not spell them properly. I guess good education anywhere is always the key!

    Stopping by from SITS!

I have come across a LOT of these “spelling errors” lately. I’m somewhat insulted by the fact that stores would still sell something that is so blatantly wrong. I think it teaches kids (and adults, for that matter!) very bad habits when it comes to grammar (and the value of the English language)!

I am glad it was cheap : ) It is cute! For some reason when people forget apostrophes and stuff it doesn’t bother me : ) Stopping over from SITS.

Maybe the apostrophe is invisible! Or maybe you could fill it in with a glitter pen!

You’re right… apostrophes are expensive. The price of that shirt would’ve doubled if the punctuation had been correct. ;-)
